Choi’s Nov. newsletter

It’s been so hot and dry in Papua Sentani for a while and it made me miss the beautiful fall in my home country. We are easily exhausted when it’s very hot like these last few weeks, but thankfully we’re all healthy.

SungKyu has been working with Noak who’s from the Kombai village Wanggemalo. SungKyu taught him Bible, translation method, computer, learned and analyzed the Kombai language, translated some stories into the Kombai language, and checked the translation of Ruth with him. We were thankful that Noak did so well even though he came to Sentani alone: usually the Kombai people feel afraid and worried if they travel alone outside of their area. If fact, he’s been an orphan since he was a teenager. He built his own house and lived there alone, and that’s unusual for the Kombai people. His experience living alone might have not been easy but made him so much more independent than any other Kombai people. We became so compassionate when we heard he’s never been given any medicine, the first time was from us about a month ago when he had malaria.

Now Noak plans to return to Wanggemalo Nov. 4 for his responsibilities there. Please pray that he keeps his faithful and encouraged heart for more training and for Bible translation work in the future, so that he’ll keep on working with us. We hope to meet him again in December when our family goes to Wanggemalo during this coming Christmas school break.

Praise that :

☆ The Kombai young man from Wanggemalo, Noak adjusted well in Sentani, followed SungKyu’s training and direction well, and worked faithfully and diligently with him.

☆ Our first son Paul finally found a good way to follow his study and homework schedule better after the first quarter of his high school.

☆ All of us were fairly healthy without major sickness.

Pray that:

☆ SungKyu keeps working alone well on language learning and analysis, and preparation for another training course for the Kombai people, as Noak returns to Wanggemalo, and that Noak will come back to work with us in the future. Pray that SungKyu will have constant progress on language learning and find good indigenous translators to be trained.

☆ JiSook will have enough time to meditate and pray, and that she’ll be enjoying her life and ministry. Pray for her stamina to learn well at the workshop in the first week of Nov. about medical ministry, and for her to know how to develop her talents well for the future.

☆ My family can be prepared well for our living and ministry in Wanggemalo in Dec.

☆ The Kombai people won’t follow materialistic desires, but will open their hearts to God and respond to the Good News.

☆ Paul will bear his study, activity, and responsibility well in high school, have deep and intimate friendship with good friends, and find his talents and dreams for the future. Pray that our children will grow and be mature in their faith.

☆ JiSook’s family (mother, sister’s family, and brother’s family) will accept Jesus Christ as their savior.

In Him,
SungKyu, JiSook, Paul, JongWoo Choi
