“사랑하는 아버지 하나님, 우리를 당신의 가족으로 불러주신 예수 그리스도의 십자가 공로를 생각하며 감사를 드립니다. 창조주 하나님, 당신의 창조의 계획 속에서 가족을 허락해 주셔서 감사합니다. 돕는 베필을 주시고, 사랑하며 함께 당신의 나라를 일구어가는 서로를 주시며, 사랑의 열매 사랑하는 아이들을 허락하여 주셔서 감사합니다.

하나님 아버지, 출근을 하면서 각자의 일터로 나서는 서로를 보면서, 유치원으로 향하는 아이들을 보면서 기도합니다. 일터에서, 집에서, 유치원과 여러 곳에서 떨어져서 지낼 때 하나님 당신의 보호하시는 손길 안에서 안전하게 하여 주소서. 세상의 많은 위험들 속에서 붙들어 주시옵소서. 일터에서 당신이 주신 은사와 열정과 열심을 가지고 보냄받은 사명을 잘 감당하고 그 안에서도 당신을 만나고 노래하는 시간들이 되도록 이끌어 주소서. 혹 일하는 중에 어려운 일을 당하여 낙심하거나 사람들과의 관계 속에서 맘이 답답할 때 당신으로 인하여 새 힘과 위로를 얻고 지혜롭게 행할 수 있도록 지켜주소서. 유치원에서 많은 시간을 보내는 아이를 위해서 기도합니다. 건강하고 씩씩하게 잘 놀고 잘 먹고 사이좋게 친구들과 함께하며 좋은 시간들을 보낼 수 있게 하여 주소서. 그 나이에 걸맞는 경험과 체험 속에서 자신의 세계를 잘 형성해갈 수 있도록 이끌어 주시고 좋은 선생님과 좋은 친구들을 만날 수 있게 해 주소서. 자라면 자랄수록 하나님 당신과 사람들 앞에 사랑스러운 자가 되게 하여 주소서.

사랑하는 하나님 아버지, 퇴근길에 기도합니다. 오늘 하루도 흩어진 가족들의 삶 가운데 함께해 주신 당신의 은혜와 인도와 보호하심에 감사합니다. 함께 모였을 때에 하나님께서 오늘 하루 주신 감사한 것들을 가지고 나눌 수 있게 하여 주시고, 피곤한 몸과 마음에 참 쉼을 주시며, 하나님 당신과 서로로 인하여 감사가 넘쳐나게 하여 주소서. 혹시 상처받은 마음으로 만나더라도 서로를 보듬을 수 있는 조그만 여유와 마음의 공간을 준비할 수 있도록 우리를 붙들어 주소서. 지치고 힘들더라도 두 팔 벌려 아이들을 안아주고 눈을 맞출 수 있는 힘도 허락해 주소서. 우리는 자신을 주장하고 다른 가족이 나를 섬겨주기를 원하지만 먼저 섬기신 주님의 본을 따라 퇴근 후 가족들을 위해 먼저 섬길 수 있는 마음을 허락해 주소서. 그렇게 함으로써 가족들 모두가 어제보다 오늘 더 사랑하고 사랑이신 당신을 더 깊이 알아갈 수 있도록 이끌어 주소서.

사랑하는 아버지 하나님, 가족들을 통해 보여주시는 당신의 은혜와 사랑이 얼마나 큰지요! 가족들을 통해 자라게 하시고 성숙하게 하시는 당신의 계획은 또 얼마나 놀라운지요! 당신 안에서 참 사랑과 은혜를 배우는 가운데 하나님 나라를 경험하고 일구어가는 가정이 되게 하여 주소서. 주 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 기도드립니다. 아멘.”

1. 노악과 셈을 계속해서 가르치고 훈련시키고 있는데, 예수님의 제자로 잘 성장해서 부족의 귀한 사역자가 되도록

2. 12월에 마을 갈 준비가 잘 되어지도록:

(1) 번역 점검 준비 – 번역된 누가복음 5, 7장이 마을 사람들에게 잘 이해 되는지 점검해야 하는데, 이 점검을 위한 질문들을 잘 준비하도록

(2) 번역 – 전도에 사용할 꼼바이어로 된 복음이야기가 이전 것이 내용이 정확치 않은 부분이 있어서 재 녹음 해야하는데 잘 진행되도록/ 꼼바이 사람들이 중요하게 여기는 십계명과 설명서 번역을 잘 할수 있도록

(3) 영적인 무장을 위해 – 예전에는 문화와 언어를 배우는데 집중했었으나 이제는 꼼바이 말로 복음을 전하려고 합니다. 그래서 더더욱 영적 싸움이 예상되는데 11월 동안 잘 준비해서 기도와 성령으로 무장 될 수 있도록 기도해 주세요. 노악과 셈에게는 실습과 같은 시간일텐데 이들도 동일하게 잘 준비될 수 있도록 기도 부탁 드립니다.

(4) 마을 생활을 위해서 잘 준비 되도록 – 고장 나서 센타니로 가져온 마을 냉동고가 잘 고쳐지도록. 필요물품과 음식류 등등도 지난 번처럼 이것저것 빼먹고 가서 고생하지 말고 잘 챙기도록

4. 학기 말인데 여러 학교 행사들로 바쁜중에 중요한 것(주님과의 만남, 마을 준비 등) 잊지 않고, 종현이가 기말 시험들을 잘 감당해서 성적이 향상 되도록.

5. 김선교사의 고지혈증, 빈혈, 갑상선 기능 저하증을 고쳐 주시도록. 꾸준한 운동으로 건강관리 잘하도록.

1. 10/5부터 2주간 진행되는 키텀 웍샵(key term workshop)을 위해 기도해 주세요. 키텀 웍샵은 구원, 죄, 은혜, 믿음, 복음, 성령, 성전, 성막, 회당 등등, 부족어에는 그 개념이나 단어가 존재하지 않는 성경의 핵심 단어들을 번역하는 방법을 가르치는 웍샵입니다.

☆ 이 웍샵에서 최선교사와 손묘숙 선교사님이 가르치는 일을 맡았는데 지혜와 힘 주셔서 잘 준비하고, 잘 감당하도록.

☆ 특히 최선교사는 강의 외에도 누가복음을 가지고 매일 경건회도 인도하려고 하는데 성령충만케 하시며, 6-7개 부족에서 나온 약 21명의 현지인 참가자들이 잘 이해하고 은혜 받도록.

☆ 노악과 셈이 이 웍샵을 통해서 잘 배워서 누가복음을 번역하는데 잘 사용하도록

2. 노악과 셈이 센타니의 신학교에서 공부를하고 있는데, 교수들이 신실하게 잘 가르치도록. 이해하기 어려운 일들도 종종벌어지는데 노악과 셈이 좋은 영향을 받도록

3. 12월에 노악과 셈이 우리 가정과 함께 마을에 들어가서 사역할때 필요한 준비를 잘 하도록 – 십계명과 복음 전도를 위한 번역을 하려고 하는데 잘 준비 될수 있도록.

4. 온 가족이 주님과 늘 동행하며, 건강하도록. 아이들이 학교 생활을 건강히, 안전히 잘하고, 김선교사의 가정 사역과 돕는 사역에도 은혜 주시도록.

Meaningful Encounters

After we have been back, we have had many meaningful visits with people. I love sharing time together with people and sharing memories, meals, laughter, tears, joy, hopes, dreams, and stories; stories of what God has been doing in and through the lives of people is a great encouragement to us. Some of our times have been shared with our old friends who have started the journey of following Jesus some years ago. Also, we have been meeting with our mentors and friends. There are also new relationships developing through new season in our lives. Among these new relationships have been related to our children’s school community; as children are older, we find that there are more involvement with teachers, staff, admin, and parents. Another relationships that developed was, through Josiah playing soccer with group of two dozen middle-aged Indonesian drivers once a week; this odd chance came about through a relationship that was forged many years ago with a young man, walking with him and mentoring him through thick and thins of life. Please pray that more meaningful relationships and dialogues will develop through playing soccer together. We hope to have these meaningful visits and relationships develop into opportunities to share more of His kingdom.

Let us share one of many encouraging story of how God is working through lives of the people through prayers. One day Ibu(Mrs.) Teddy had came to us to share that her mother is having a sharp pain on right side of her lower abdomen for several days and needed to be taken to the hospital. Ibu Teddy, Kate and I gathered together to pray for her mother before she went to visit her mother at the hospital who lived two hours away to admit her to the hospital. We were quite familiar with the telltale signs of appendicitis from when Kate had to get an emergency surgery to remove her swollen and inflamed appendix thirteen years ago. We prayed for Ibu Teddy’s mother’s appendix not to have burst, and for healing. Her mother was admitted to the hospital and was under observation for five days; her appendix did not burst but her symptoms were not getting any better and the doctor told her that they will have to do a surgery to remove her appendix in two days time. Ibu. Teddy was back home and was planning to visit her mother again for the surgery; in the mean time, Ibu Teddy, network of women who follow Jesus, Kate, the kids and I kept praying and Ibu Teddy got the news from her older sister that her mother was well and no surgery is needed. Ibu Teddy’s mother shared that she had a dream like experience although she was not sleeping (vision) and a man dressed in shining white robe came and hugged her and told her that she was loved and that she will be healed and put his hand on her abdomen where it hurt. She had the same vision again the following night (night before the surgery) and when the doctor came in the morning to check on her was shocked to see that she was completely healed, there were not even little bit of pain left on her abdomen and she was fit to return home after precautionary observation and tests.

We sensed excitement and hope while Ibu Teddy share her mother’s story with us we prayed together to give thanks to the Father. We encouraged her to visit her mother over the long weekend and share with her about what has happen and how Jesus had visited her and cleansed her illness; however the morning when Ibu Teddy was to leave to go to her mother, she found her legs swollen and unable to walk her lips were swollen and had difficulty speaking. When Ibu Teddy shared with us about what had happened to her over the weekend, we felt that the enemy did not want her to share about what had happen to her mother and was interfering with her. We prayed for her legs and the swelling and against the work of the enemy and saw the improvement in her walking. Romans chapter 10 verse 14–15 came to my mind, “But how are they to call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” Two things stood out to us; first, how will her mother and the family back home hear if no one is sent to preach; second, how beautiful her swollen feet looked that wants to carry the good news where ever she goes. Please pray for wisdom, strength, and protection for everyone who shares the good news; may the meaningful encounters with the Lord continue to spread with people as we continue to build meaningful relationships with people around us.

Kate’s Medical Follow-up
A quick update on Kate’s health; the results from Kate’s follow-up health check up showed that the Kate is healing well from the surgery although there were some concern with her mammogram results, they were concerned about what they saw but was not able to clarify at the time; the doctors were not very clear on giving her definitive answers or recommendations. After getting back we did some search that led to a recommendation to a very capable specialist who was able to see her; she made an appointment with the specialist and made another plan to go back for a more detailed diagnosis that entails biopsy with the specialist. She had initial meeting with the specialist and is currently waiting results from the biopsy (six places); she reported that he was very capable and was able to explain clearly options at hand and possible outcomes following the results. Thank you for praying so that we were able to find really great specialist. Kate arrived safely in Korea Sunday (6/7) and has met with the specialist on Monday (6/8), after the biopsy results on Friday (6/12); she will have clear treatment options to pursue. After that she will undergo recovery process coupled with eastern medicine and prayer at the retreat center in Busan over a month time. Will you pray and hope with us for a deep healing for her body and for her spirit at this time?

Children: New Season
Josiah had his middle school promotion and will be a high-school student; and Lydia had her fifth grade promotion and will be a middle-school student next fall. We are thankful that the children have had no difficulty making friends and adjusting to the new school. It is hard to believe that we are now parents of a high-schooler, please pray that we would always lead them in the right path and set a good example for them.

Ready, Set, Go!

All set for December 21, 2014! We are excited to tell you that we have a set date and purchased the airline tickets for our family to return to Indonesia. It has gotten exponentially harder to obtain teaching visa into Indonesia. New visas are seldom offered and many of the old visas are not renewed. After much prayer we will be returning to Indonesia with a different visa to prepare for a new season of our ministry in Indonesia. We have much peace in this process; this new visa platform will give us great opportunity to survey and evaluate What we knew with fresh perspectives of what we have leaned through my studies away from the field. We hope to gain deeper insight into how the Lord will lead us in to new season in our lives. We believe that it will be wise not to try and return to our lives exactly as we have left it, but to take into consideration the changes that took place in Indonesia while we were away, and get clearer understanding of culture and spirituality of the area; it is also essential for us to seek His guidance and wisdom as we seek the direction during our new season of our ministry. We can’t think of a better place to start a new year in the land that our family feels called, even the children are excited to return in Indonesia. Currently we are busy packing and preparing for the move; taking care of many small detail paper work and general preparations. When we arrive in Indonesia, we need to find housing for our family, and situate children in school; also we need to purchase a vehicle when we set foot on the ground. Please pray that all the necessary preparations and transitions will run smoothly. Also pray that we will connect with more supporting partners to strengthen our support level for more in-depth, fruitful, long term and more impactful presence in Indonesia.

Kate’s Father’s Update
Praise the Lord! Thank you for your prayers, Kate’s father for the first time attended church service on November 16, 2014. We know that there is nothing that is impossible for God and have witnessed His mighty deeds; but honestly, there has been times we wondered if the day will ever come for Kate’s father to attend a church willingly. Our family is greatly encouraged and excited as we return to Indonesia, as we are anticipating what God will do in and through us. Please continue to pray that he will commit his life to Christ and that he will find someone who will walk with him on his faith journey and disciple him.

Children
Josiah and Lydia has made meaningful relationships with peers, teachers, church members and our supporter friends. Please pray that they could make new friends and meaningful relationships as they settle in Indonesia.

2014-12월의 아지랭이편지

12월 기도제목입니다.^^ 쓰다보니 좀 길어졌는데 사랑하는 마음으로 모두 올려 드리실줄 믿고 올려요. ㅎ
1. 학기말인데 아이들이 학교 생활 마무리를 잘하고, 특히 고딩 첫학기를 보낸 종현이가 펑크낸 것(?^^;;)들을 잘 메꿔서 성적이 향상 되도록.^^;
2. 김선교사가 11월중에 이가 아파서 치과 치료를 위해 자카르타에 가려고 했는데(파푸아엔 치과가 없어욤^^;), 연락해보니 신경치료 해서 크라운 씌워논이가 아픈 것은 별로 해줄 것이 없다고, 치근이 문제일수 있으니 항생제를 먹어보라 해서 가지 않았습니다. 이제 12월에는 시간도 없고 마을도 가야해서 이가 더 아파져도 자카르타에 갈수 없는데, 아픈 어금니가 통증과 문제가 사라지도록 기도해 주세요.
3. 12/3부터 약 두주 반동안 절친(네덜란드인 선교사)의 고딩 아들인 아이카를 맡아주기로 했는데, 아이카가 자기 가족과 떨어져 우리와 지낼때 언어, 문화, 식생활등이 많이 다르지만 잘 적응해서 즐겁고 편안히 함께 지낼 수 있도록.
4. 12월 하순에 네 식구가 꼼바이 부족 마을인 왕그말로에 들어가는데 그곳에서의 사역과 생활을 위해 잘 계획하고 준비하며, 경비행기로 오가는 길이 안전하고 예정대로 순적히 진행 되도록: 김선교사가 읽기 준비반 교재와 주일 학교 준비를 잘 하고, 아이들이 유익하고 즐거운 마을 생활을 위해 잘 준비되도록.
5. 학기말, 연말이라 학교나 선교사 모임에서 행사 같은 것들이 많은데다, 파푸아 한글학교 일, 마을 갈 준비 등등에 겹겹이 둘러싸인 김선교사에게 건강과, 활력, 아이디어들을 많이 부어 주셔서 모두 잘 감당하고, 무엇보다 늘 주님과 동행하고 성령충만하도록.
6. 왕그말로에서 성탄절과 새해를 맞이하는데, 마을 사람들과 우리 가족 모두에게 의미있는 시간을 함께 보낼 수 있도록. 마을 사람들과 사랑하는 관계로 맺어갈 수 있도록.
7. 왕그말로에서 성경공부, 번역자 훈련, 읽기 준비반, 주일학교 등등을 진행할때 마을 사람들이 관심을 가지고 참여하며, 이일을 진행하는 우리에게도 믿음, 소망, 사랑과 인내의 마음을 주셔서 지치지않고 기쁨이 있도록.
8. 10월에 센타니로 와서 훈련 받았던 노악(Noak)이 까루와게(Karuwage) 마을 교회 건축을 위해 돌아갔는데 이 일들을 잘 마치고 12월에 최선교사와 잘 만나서 왕그말로에 와서 더 훈련 받고, 1월에 우리와 함께 센타니로 올 수 있도록. 최선교사가 정글 길을 약 3시간 걸어서 까루와게를 방문하려고 하는데 오가는 길에 안전하게 다녀오고 소망하는 일도 잘 이루어 지도록.
9. 왕그말로에서 만나는 모든 이들이 우리에게서 예수 그리스도의 향기를 느낄수 있게 되며, 꼼바이 부족 사람들이 쾌락을 위해 돈을 쫒는 일을 그치고 주님을 바라며, 삶의 질 향상(건강, 교육 등)에 관심을 가지게 되도록.
10. 종현, 종우가 마을 생활을 힘들고 어렵게 느끼는데, 아이들도 의미를 느끼고 즐거운 생활 할 수 있도록. 주님을 만나며 음성을 듣도록 기도해 주세요.
