영어본문 10 Rizpah daughter of Aiah took sackcloth and spread it out for herself on a rock. From the beginning of the harvest till the rain poured down from the heavens on the bodies, she did not let the birds of the air touch them by day or the wild animals by night. 11 When David was told what Aiah’s daughter Rizpah, Saul’s concubine, had done, 12 he went and took the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan from the citizens of Jabesh Gilead. (They had taken them secretly from the public square at Beth Shan, where the Philistines had hung them after they struck Saul down on Gilboa.) 13 David brought the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan from there, and the bones of those who had been killed and exposed were gathered up. 14 They buried the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan in the tomb of Saul’s father Kish, at Zela in Benjamin, and did everything the king commanded. After that, God answered prayer in behalf of the land. 15 Once again there was a battle between the Philistines and Israel. David went down with his men to fight against the Philistines, and he became exhausted. 16 And Ishbi-Benob, one of the descendants of Rapha, whose bronze spearhead weighed three hundred shekels and who was armed with a new sword, said he would kill David. 17 But Abishai son of Zeruiah came to David’s rescue; he struck the Philistine down and killed him. Meditation. 충성이 충성을 낳는다.
블레셋과의 전투에서 다윗이 죽인 골리앗에 이어 가드의 네 거인을 죽인 다윗의 용사들을 소개한다. 창날의 무게만 3.4kg인 거인 이스비브놉을 처치함으로써 위기에 처한 다윗의 목숨을 구한 아비새. 또 다른 거인 삽을 죽인 십브개. 창자루가 베틀 채 같은 골리앗의 아우 라흐미를 죽인 엘하난. 그리고 손가락과 발가락이 각기 여섯 개씩 달린 거인을 죽인 요나단 등이 바로 그들이다. 이처럼 블레셋에 대한 승리는 다윗만의 노력으로 이루어진 것이 아니라, 다윗을 위해 목숨을 걸고 충성을 바친 용사들이 있었기 때문이었다.
이스라엘의 왕은 하나님께 충성을 다해야, 그의 백성들로부터의 충성을 보장받을 수 있다. 자신은 하나님께 충성하지 않으면서, 백성들의 충성을 기대할 수는 없다. 사울은 여호와의 이름으로 맺어진 언약을 어기는 등 여호와께 충성하지 않았다. 그에게는 다윗처럼 그를 위해 목숨 바치는 충성스러운 부하가 없었다. 다윗의 충성스러운 용사들은 다윗의 충성에 대한 하나님의 보상이다. 당신이 하나님 앞에 더욱 충성을 다해야 할 일은 없는가?
