7예수께서 제자들과 함께 바다로 물러가시니 갈릴리에서 큰 무리가 따르며 8유대와 예루살렘과 이두매와 요단 강 건너편과 또 두로와 시돈 근처에서 많은 무리가 그가 하신 큰 일을 듣고 나아오는지라 9예수께서 무리가 에워싸 미는 것을 피하기 위하여 작은 배를 대기하도록 제자들에게 명하셨으니 10이는 많은 사람을 고치셨으므로 병으로 고생하는 자들이 예수를 만지고자 하여 몰려왔음이더라 11더러운 귀신들도 어느 때든지 예수를 보면 그 앞에 엎드려 부르짖어 이르되 당신은 하나님의 아들이니이다 하니 12예수께서 자기를 나타내지 말라고 많이 경고하시니라 13또 산에 오르사 자기가 원하는 자들을 부르시니 나아온지라 14이에 열둘을 세우셨으니 이는 자기와 함께 있게 하시고 또 보내사 전도도 하며 15귀신을 내쫓는 권능도 가지게 하려 하심이러라 16이 열둘을 세우셨으니 시몬에게는 베드로란 이름을 더하셨고 17또 세베대의 아들 야고보와 야고보의 형제 요한이니 이 둘에게는 보아너게 곧 우레의 아들이란 이름을 더하셨으며 18또 안드레와 빌립과 바돌로매와 마태와 도마와 알패오의 아들 야고보와 및 다대오와 가나안인 시몬이며 19또 가룟 유다니 이는 예수를 판 자더라

7″Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?” 8Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them, “Why are you thinking these things? 9Which is easier: to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, take your mat and walk’? 10But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins . . . .” He said to the paralytic, 11″I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” 12He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!” 13Once again Jesus went out beside the lake. A large crowd came to him, and he began to teach them. 14As he walked along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” Jesus told him, and Levi got up and followed him. 15While Jesus was having dinner at Levi’s house, many tax collectors and “sinners” were eating with him and his disciples, for there were many who followed him. 16When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees saw him eating with the “sinners” and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: “Why does he eat with tax collectors and ‘sinners’?” 17On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” 18Now John’s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting. Some people came and asked Jesus, “How is it that John’s disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees are fasting, but yours are not?” 19Jesus answered, “How can the guests of the bridegroom fast while he is with them? They cannot, so long as they have him with them.

Meditation.
마가는 예수님을 따라다니는 사람들을 ‘제자’와 ‘무리’로 구분합니다(7절). 귀신들도 인정한 하나님의 아들이신 예수님께서는 자신의 유익을 얻고자 몰려드는 무리에게는 복음 전파를 허락하지 않으셨습니다(11~12절). 오히려 산에 오르셔서 밤이 새도록 하나님께 기도하신 후, 제자들 중에서 열둘을 택해 사도로 부르셨습니다(13절, 참조 눅 6:12~13). 사실 예수님의 방법은 이적 중심의 복음 전파보다 힘이 들며, 선발된 자들이 특출한 능력을 가진 자들이 아니기에 여러모로 비효율적으로 보입니다. 하지만 예수님께서는 자신과 동거함으로 그 인격과 삶을 배운 제자들을 통해 세상의 변화를 원하셨습니다. 비록 시간이 훨씬 많이 걸릴지는 모르지만, 주님의 뜻을 배워야 주님의 방법대로 사역을 감당할 수 있기에 제자 삼는 사역을 감행하신 것입니다. 그러므로 예수님의 제자는 자신의 능력으로 사명을 감당하려 해서는 안 됩니다. 모든 선택과 주권은 주님께 있음을 인정하고, 주님의 삶을 배우는 데 힘쓰는 자가 돼야 합니다. 예수님의 제자로 부름받았음에 감사드리며, 배움을 실천하며 살게 하소서.
