21그 때에 내가 아하와 강 가에서 금식을 선포하고 우리 하나님 앞에서 스스로 겸비하여 우리와 우리 어린 아이와 모든 소유를 위하여 평탄한 길을 그에게 간구하였으니 22이는 우리가 전에 왕에게 아뢰기를 우리 하나님의 손은 자기를 찾는 모든 자에게 선을 베푸시고 자기를 배반하는 모든 자에게는 권능과 진노를 내리신다 하였으므로 길에서 적군을 막고 우리를 도울 보병과 마병을 왕에게 구하기를 부끄러워 하였음이라 23그러므로 우리가 이를 위하여 금식하며 우리 하나님께 간구하였더니 그의 응낙하심을 입었느니라 24그 때에 내가 제사장의 우두머리들 중 열두 명 곧 세레뱌와 하사뱌와 그의 형제 열 명을 따로 세우고 25그들에게 왕과 모사들과 방백들과 또 그 곳에 있는 이스라엘 무리가 우리 하나님의 성전을 위하여 드린 은과 금과 그릇들을 달아서 주었으니 26내가 달아서 그들 손에 준 것은 은이 육백오십 달란트요 은 그릇이 백 달란트요 금이 백 달란트며 27또 금잔이 스무 개라 그 무게는 천 다릭이요 또 아름답고 빛나 금 같이 보배로운 놋 그릇이 두 개라 28내가 그들에게 이르되 너희는 여호와께 거룩한 자요 이 그릇들도 거룩하고 그 은과 금은 너희 조상들의 하나님 여호와께 즐거이 드린 예물이니 29너희는 예루살렘 여호와의 성전 골방에 이르러 제사장들과 레위 사람의 우두머리들과 이스라엘의 족장들 앞에서 이 그릇을 달기까지 삼가 지키라 30이에 제사장들과 레위 사람들이 은과 금과 그릇을 예루살렘 우리 하나님의 성전으로 가져가려 하여 그 무게대로 받으니라 31첫째 달 십이 일에 우리가 아하와 강을 떠나 예루살렘으로 갈새 우리 하나님의 손이 우리를 도우사 대적과 길에 매복한 자의 손에서 건지신지라 32이에 예루살렘에 이르러 거기서 삼 일 간 머물고 33제사일에 우리 하나님의 성전에서 은과 금과 그릇을 달아서 제사장 우리아의 아들 므레못의 손에 넘기니 비느하스의 아들 엘르아살과 레위 사람 예수아의 아들 요사밧과 빈누이의 아들 노아댜가 함께 있어 34모든 것을 다 세고 달아 보고 그 무게의 총량을 그 때에 기록하였느니라 35사로잡혔던 자의 자손 곧 이방에서 돌아온 자들이 이스라엘의 하나님께 번제를 드렸는데 이스라엘 전체를 위한 수송아지가 열두 마리요 또 숫양이 아흔여섯 마리요 어린 양이 일흔일곱 마리요 또 속죄제의 숫염소가 열두 마리니 모두 여호와께 드린 번제물이라 36무리가 또 왕의 조서를 왕의 총독들과 유브라데 강 건너편 총독들에게 넘겨 주매 그들이 백성과 하나님의 성전을 도왔느니라

21There, by the Ahava Canal, I proclaimed a fast, so that we might humble ourselves before our God and ask him for a safe journey for us and our children, with all our possessions. 22I was ashamed to ask the king for soldiers and horsemen to protect us from enemies on the road, because we had told the king, “The gracious hand of our God is on everyone who looks to him, but his great anger is against all who forsake him.” 23So we fasted and petitioned our God about this, and he answered our prayer. 24Then I set apart twelve of the leading priests, together with Sherebiah, Hashabiah and ten of their brothers, 25and I weighed out to them the offering of silver and gold and the articles that the king, his advisers, his officials and all Israel present there had donated for the house of our God. 26I weighed out to them 650 talents of silver, silver articles weighing 100 talents, 100 talents of gold, 27.20 bowls of gold valued at 1,000 darics, and two fine articles of polished bronze, as precious as gold. 28I said to them, “You as well as these articles are consecrated to the LORD. The silver and gold are a freewill offering to the LORD, the God of your fathers. 29Guard them carefully until you weigh them out in the chambers of the house of the LORD in Jerusalem before the leading priests and the Levites and the family heads of Israel.” 30Then the priests and Levites received the silver and gold and sacred articles that had been weighed out to be taken to the house of our God in Jerusalem. 31On the twelfth day of the first month we set out from the Ahava Canal to go to Jerusalem. The hand of our God was on us, and he protected us from enemies and bandits along the way. 32So we arrived in Jerusalem, where we rested three days. 33On the fourth day, in the house of our God, we weighed out the silver and gold and the sacred articles into the hands of Meremoth son of Uriah, the priest. Eleazar son of Phinehas was with him, and so were the Levites Jozabad son of Jeshua and Noadiah son of Binnui. 34Everything was accounted for by number and weight, and the entire weight was recorded at that time. 35Then the exiles who had returned from captivity sacrificed burnt offerings to the God of Israel: twelve bulls for all Israel, ninety-six rams, seventy-seven male lambs and, as a sin offering, twelve male goats. All this was a burnt offering to the LORD. 36They also delivered the king’s orders to the royal satraps and to the governors of Trans-Euphrates, who then gave assistance to the people and to the house of God.

Meditation
에스라는 바사 제국을 떠나기 전, 금식을 선포하고 하나님께서 인도하시며 보호하시는 평탄한 길을 위해 기도합니다(21절). 바사 제국의 왕을 향해 하나님에 대해 선포한 것이 온전히 이뤄져 하나님께서 높임을 받으시게 하기 위함입니다(22절). 만일 귀환 과정 중에 문제가 생긴다면 백성이 아니라 하나님께서 부끄러움을 당할 수 있었습니다. 에스라와 백성의 기도를 들으신 하나님께서는 출애굽 하던 이스라엘 백성을 지켜 주셨던 것처럼, ‘제2의 출애굽’이라고 할 수 있는 바벨론 포로 생활에서 귀환하는 백성을 예루살렘에 도착할 때까지 안전하게 지켜 주십니다(32절). 에스라와 백성은 예루살렘에서 하나님께 영광스러운 번제를 드립니다(35절). 거
의 4개월의 기간 동안 먼 길을 걸어오면서도 제사에 쓸 기구와 제물에 빈틈이 생기지 않을 정도로 온전한 여정이었습니다. 에스라는 하나님께서 맡기신 사명을 영적으로도 현실적으로도 최선을 다해 준비하고 실행합니다. 하나님의 일은 하나님의 은혜와 더불어 거룩한 하나님의 사람들의 헌신이 합력해서 선을 이룹니다. 하나님께서 내게 맡기신 일에 최선을 다해 하나님 나라의 일을 이루게 하소서.
