1일곱째 달에 왕의 종친 엘리사마의 손자요 느다냐의 아들로서 왕의 장관인 이스마엘이 열 사람과 함께 미스바로 가서 아히감의 아들 그다랴에게 이르러 미스바에서 함께 떡을 먹다가 2느다냐의 아들 이스마엘과 그와 함께 있던 열 사람이 일어나서 바벨론의 왕의 그 땅을 위임했던 사반의 손자 아히감의 아들 그다랴를 칼로 쳐죽였고 3이스마엘이 또 미스바에서 그다랴와 함께 있던 모든 유다 사람과 거기에 있는 갈대아 군사를 죽였더라 4그가 그다랴를 죽인 지 이틀이 되었어도 이를 아는 사람이 없었더라 5그 때에 사람 팔십 명이 자기들의 수염을 깎고 옷을 찢고 몸에 상처를 내고 손에 소제물과 유향을 가지고 세겜과 실로와 사마리아로부터 와서 여호와의 성전으로 나아가려 한지라 6느다냐의 아들 이스마엘이 그들을 영접하러 미스바에서 나와 울면서 가다가 그들을 만나 아히감의 아들 그다랴에게로 가자 하더라 7그들이 성읍 중앙에 이를 때에 느다냐의 아들 이스마엘이 자기와 함께 있던 사람들과 더불어 그들을 죽여 구덩이 가운데에 던지니라 8그 중의 열 사람은 이스마엘에게 이르기를 우리가 밀과 보리와 기름과 꿀을 밭에 감추었으니 우리를 죽이지 말라 하니 그가 그치고 그들을 그의 형제와 마찬가지로 죽이지 아니하였더라 9이스마엘이 그다랴에게 속한 사람들을 죽이고 그 시체를 던진 구덩이는 아사 왕이 이스라엘의 바아사 왕을 두려워하여 팠던 것이라 느다냐의 아들 이스마엘이 그가 쳐죽인 사람들의 시체를 거기에 채우고 10미스바에 남아 있는 왕의 딸들과 모든 백성 곧 사령관 느부사라단이 아히감의 아들 그다랴에게 위임하였던 바 미스바에 남아 있는 모든 백성을 이스마엘이 사로잡되 곧 느다냐의 아들 이스마엘이 그들을 사로잡고 암몬 자손에게로 가려고 떠나니라

1In the seventh month Ishmael son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, who was of royal blood and had been one of the king’s officers, came with ten men to Gedaliah son of Ahikam at Mizpah. While they were eating together there, 2Ishmael son of Nethaniah and the ten men who were with him got up and struck down Gedaliah son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, with the sword, killing the one whom the king of Babylon had appointed as governor over the land. 3Ishmael also killed all the Jews who were with Gedaliah at Mizpah, as well as the Babylonian soldiers who were there. 4The day after Gedaliah’s assassination, before anyone knew about it, 5eighty men who had shaved off their beards, torn their clothes and cut themselves came from Shechem, Shiloh and Samaria, bringing grain offerings and incense with them to the house of the LORD. 6Ishmael son of Nethaniah went out from Mizpah to meet them, weeping as he went. When he met them, he said, “Come to Gedaliah son of Ahikam.” 7When they went into the city, Ishmael son of Nethaniah and the men who were with him slaughtered them and threw them into a cistern. 8But ten of them said to Ishmael, “Don’t kill us! We have wheat and barley, oil and honey, hidden in a field.” So he let them alone and did not kill them with the others. 9Now the cistern where he threw all the bodies of the men he had killed along with Gedaliah was the one King Asa had made as part of his defense against Baasha king of Israel. Ishmael son of Nethaniah filled it with the dead. 10Ishmael made captives of all the rest of the people who were in Mizpah–the king’s daughters along with all the others who were left there, over whom Nebuzaradan commander of the imperial guard had appointed Gedaliah son of Ahikam. Ishmael son of Nethaniah took them captive and set out to cross over to the Ammonites.

➡ 옆으로 실천해. 내 생각이 앞서 하나님의 말씀에 불순종하고 있는 것이 있다면 무엇입니까? 하나님의 말씀 앞에서 절대 순종하기 위해 내 안에 어떤 욕심을 버리겠습니까?

Meditation.
이스마엘은 일곱째 달에 그다랴를 찾아와 죽입니다. 여기서 일곱째 달은, 예루살렘이 멸망한 해의 7월로 추정되며 초막절 기간입니다. 이스마엘은 그다랴를 죽인 후, 미스바에 있는 유다 사람과 갈대아 군사도 죽입니다(1~3절). 이후 이스마엘은 초막절 절기를 지키기 위해 세겜, 실로, 사마리아 등에서 온 순례자들을 미스바로 유인해 살해합니다(4~8절). 이스마엘은 그다랴에 속한 사람들을 다 죽인 후, 그 시체를 아사왕이 북이스라엘의 바아사왕을 두려워해 팠던 구덩이에 던지는 잔인함을 보입니다. 이는 바벨론에 항복하라는 하나님의 명령에 대한 불순종이며, 자기 욕망에 사로잡힌 인간의 추악함을 보여 주는 장면입니다. 이스마엘은 오직 자신의 안위를 위해 이토록 악한 일을 행하고, 이후 백성까지 포로로 잡아 암몬으로 데리고 가는 잘못을 범합니다. 성도는 욕망에 사로잡혀서 죄짓는 것을 합리화해서는 안 됩니다. 오직 말씀 앞에 순종하기를 바라시는 하나님의 뜻을 되새기며, 겸손하게 절대 순종의 자세로 살아가길 바랍니다. 내 안에 남아 있는 욕심들을 다 버리고, 오직 말씀 앞에 절대 순종하도록 인도해 주소서.
