☆★ 왕그말로 일기 – 7월 12일 ★☆

오랜만에 도루스를 만난 남편은 그의 아기가 열이 난다는 이야기를 듣고 우리집으로 데리고 와 약을 먹여 주었다. 아기가 몇개월 되었는지 모른다길래, 지난 3월 센타니에 우리랑 웍샵 참석하러 나갔을때는 아기가 몇달 되었었냐 물으니 그때는 두달쯤 되었었다고 했다. 아기가 목에 가래가 끓고 기침이 목쉰 소리가 나길래 지금은 타이레놀을 먹였으니 일단 잘 재우고 저녁때 다시 오라고 했다. 아기가 기침을 한지가 한달이나 되었다면서도 도루스와 아기는 저녁때 다시 오지 않았다.
오늘 아침 마을 사람들 집을 방문하던 남편이 황당한 소문을 들었다. 지역개발 자금으로 전동톱을 하나 샀는데, 그 그계가 오래오래 잘 돌아가라는 뜻으로 도루스 아기의 배꼽에서 떨어진 탯줄 조각을 그 전동톱 속에 넣었다는 것이다. 당연히 이물질이 들어간 전동톱은 작동이 안됐을 것이고, 마을 사람들은 이런 일로 탯줄의 주인인 아기는 곧 죽을 것이며, 이런 신호로 아기가 아픈 거라고 수근거렸다. 이런 수근거림 때문에 도루스는 아기에게 약을 먹이러 데려오지 않은 것이다.
이 이야기를 들은 남편은 당장 도루스의 집으로 찾아가 당장 아기를 데리고 오라고 했다. 한번 더 약을 먹은 아기는 또 새근새근 잠이 들었을 것이다. 아플때 약은 커녕 예방주사도 한번 맞지 못하고 자라며, 어디가 아프더라도 그냥 가지고 태어난 저항력으로 살아 남아야만 하는, 정글 마을에 태어난 아기들이라서 그런지 왠만한 아픈 아기들은 타이레놀만 줘도 약발(?)이 엄청 잘 듣는것 같다.
아기의 걸걸한 오랜 기침이 타이레놀 몇번으로 나아지기를 바라며, 아기용 항생제를 먹일지 말지를 고민하며 지켜본다. 아기들이 잘 죽는게 너무나도 흔하고 당연한 일로 여겨지는 이 곳에서, 도루스의 작은 아기는 이 어린 나이에 어른들의 잘못된 믿음이 헛되다는 것을 증명시켜줄 영향력 있는 아기가 되었다. 주님의 치료의 손길이 어서 임하시기를 기도하며 기대해본다.

☆★ Wanggemalo diary – July 12th ★☆

SungKyu met Dorus after a long while since last time. He told him to bring his baby to our house when he found his baby was sick with fever and cough. The baby was about 6 monthes old and his cough was croaking and having phlegm a lot because he’s been sick for a month. We gave Tylenol first and were going to give some antibiotics if it doesn’t work well. But Dorus and his baby didn’t come back.
At the following day SungKyu heard a rumor that Dorus’ baby’s dieing because Dorus did a wrong thing. The story was somewhat interesting and silly at the same time.
When the villgers received a chainsaw as a community support from somewhere, Dorus put his baby’s umbilical cord in it with a wish that will keep the chainsaw running well and goes long. With no doubt, the chainsaw didn’t work, and it made other villgers angry and spread the rumor.
SungKyu had him clean it up. After some work on cleaning and fixing the chainsaw started working again.
Deaths of little babies sounds like just a normal thing and they find the reasons from many false believes. Babies who were born in the jungle should survive all the deadly hardships. I felt like Dorus’ baby has more reasons to be healed, so that he can tell their curse was their own wrong thing, not about the baby himself.
