5 each of the two men–the cupbearer and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were being held in prison–had a dream the same night, and each dream had a meaning of its own. 6 When Joseph came to them the next morning, he saw that they were dejected. 7 So he asked Pharaoh’s officials who were in custody with him in his master’s house, “Why are your faces so sad today?” 8 “We both had dreams,” they answered, “but there is no one to interpret them.” Then Joseph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell me your dreams.” 9 So the chief cupbearer told Joseph his dream. He said to him, “In my dream I saw a vine in front of me, 10 and on the vine were three branches. As soon as it budded, it blossomed, and its clusters ripened into grapes. 11 Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand, and I took the grapes, squeezed them into Pharaoh’s cup and put the cup in his hand.” 12 “This is what it means,” Joseph said to him. “The three branches are three days. 13 Within three days Pharaoh will lift up your head and restore you to your position, and you will put Pharaoh’s cup in his hand, just as you used to do when you were his cupbearer. 14 But when all goes well with you, remember me and show me kindness; mention me to Pharaoh and get me out of this prison. 15 For I was forcibly carried off from the land of the Hebrews, and even here I have done nothing to deserve being put in a dungeon.” 16 When the chief baker saw that Joseph had given a favorable interpretation, he said to Joseph, “I too had a dream: On my head were three baskets of bread. 17 In the top basket were all kinds of baked goods for Pharaoh, but the birds were eating them out of the basket on my head.” 18 “This is what it means,” Joseph said. “The three baskets are three days. 19 Within three days Pharaoh will lift off your head and hang you on a tree. And the birds will eat away your flesh.” 20 Now the third day was Pharaoh’s birthday, and he gave a feast for all his officials. He lifted up the heads of the chief cupbearer and the chief baker in the presence of his officials: 21 He restored the chief cupbearer to his position, so that he once again put the cup into Pharaoh’s hand, 22 but he hanged the chief baker, just as Joseph had said to them in his interpretation. 23 The chief cupbearer, however, did not remember Joseph; he forgot him.

Meditation. 고난 가운데 쌓인 실력.
어느 날 하나님의 꿈이 예고 없이 옥중에 갇힌 바로의 두 신하를 찾아온다. 꿈을 꾼 두 신하는 그 꿈이 무엇을 의미하는지 모르고, 해석해 주는 사람도 없기에 근심에 휩싸인다(8절). 이 때 요셉이 자신 있게 요청한다. ‘청하건대 내게 이르소서!’ 어떻게 이럴 수 있었을까? 해석은 자신이 아니라 하나님께 달려 있다는 확신 때문이다. 이런 확신이 있다는 것은 요셉 자신이 꿈을 해석하는 하나님과 특별한 관계를 맺고 있음을 암시한다. 아마도 요셉은 그동안 크고 작은 사건 속에서 그분을 체험했을 것이다. 처음에는 자신이 꾸었던 꿈이 무엇인지조차 몰랐던 요셉이 이제 꿈으로 인해 당황하는 감옥의 죄수들에게 자신 있게 다가가게 된 것이다.
요셉은 고난 가운데 있었지만, 그 시간을 하나님을 경험하며 신뢰하는 영적 실력을 쌓는 계기로 삼았다. 실력은 편안한 데서 쌓이지 않는다. 궁핍함과 고난과 간절함 가운데 생긴다. 그리고 이렇게 생긴 실력은 갑작스럽게 찾아온 위기를 하나님의 살아계심을 보여주는 기회로 바꾸어놓는다. 당신은 주어진 상황 속에서 더 깊은 믿음을 키워가고 있는가?
