15 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on. 16 Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground. 17 I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them. And I will gain glory through Pharaoh and all his army, through his chariots and his horsemen. 18 The Egyptians will know that I am the LORD when I gain glory through Pharaoh, his chariots and his horsemen.” 19 Then the angel of God, who had been traveling in front of Israel’s army, withdrew and went behind them. The pillar of cloud also moved from in front and stood behind them, 20 coming between the armies of Egypt and Israel. Throughout the night the cloud brought darkness to the one side and light to the other side; so neither went near the other all night long. 21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the LORD drove the sea back with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land. The waters were divided, 22 and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left. 23 The Egyptians pursued them, and all Pharaoh’s horses and chariots and horsemen followed them into the sea. 24 During the last watch of the night the LORD looked down from the pillar of fire and cloud at the Egyptian army and threw it into confusion. 25 He made the wheels of their chariots come off so that they had difficulty driving. And the Egyptians said, “Let’s get away from the Israelites! The LORD is fighting for them against Egypt.” 26 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the sea so that the waters may flow back over the Egyptians and their chariots and horsemen.” 27 Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and at daybreak the sea went back to its place. The Egyptians were fleeing toward it, and the LORD swept them into the sea. 28 The water flowed back and covered the chariots and horsemen–the entire army of Pharaoh that had followed the Israelites into the sea. Not one of them survived. 29 But the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left. 30 That day the LORD saved Israel from the hands of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians lying dead on the shore. 31 And when the Israelites saw the great power the LORD displayed against the Egyptians, the people feared the LORD and put their trust in him and in Moses his servant.

Meditation. 위기 속에 감추어진 하나님의 능력
하나님의 능력은 막다른 골목에 감추어져 있다. 끝인 줄 알았는데, 사실은 출구였다. 이 출구를 여는 것이 행동하는 기도다. 하나님을 향해 부르짖을 뿐 아니라 일어나 하나님의 능력을 의지해 앞으로 나아가야 한다(15-16절). 이런 행동하는 기도를 통해 하나님은 커다란 구원의 역사를 시작하신다. 앞서가던 하나님의 사자가 뒤로 가서 애굽 진과 맞서고, 하나님의 임재를 나타내는 구름기둥도 뒤로 옮겨가 애굽 진영을 칠흙 같은 흑암으로 덮어 버린다. 또한 바다를 가르시고 한가운데 땅을 마르게 하셔서 그곳을 걸어서 통과하게 하셨다. 뒤따라오는 애굽 군사들은 바다 한 가운데서 모두 익사하게 하셨다. 이를 통해 하나님은 애굽 백성들과 불안 가운데 떠는 이스라엘 백성 모두가 하나님을 여호와 하나님, 전능하신 큰 능력의 하나님으로 알고, 믿고, 경외하기를 원하셨다(18, 31절).
위기는 하나님이 누구신가를 체험할 수 있는 기회다. 혹시 위기 가운데 떨며 아무것도 하지 못하고 얼어붙어 있진 않는가? 일어나 앞으로 나아가라. 막다른 골목 가운데 하나님의 능력이 새로운 출구를 여는 기적을 맛볼 것이다.
