1일곱째 인을 떼실 때에 하늘이 반 시간쯤 고요하더니 2내가 보매 하나님 앞에 일곱 천사가 서 있어 일곱 나팔을 받았더라 3또 다른 천사가 와서 제단 곁에 서서 금 향로를 가지고 많은 향을 받았으니 이는 모든 성도의 기도와 합하여 보좌 앞 금 제단에 드리고자 함이라 4향연이 성도의 기도와 함께 천사의 손으로부터 하나님 앞으로 올라가는지라 5천사가 향로를 가지고 제단의 불을 담아다가 땅에 쏟으매 우레와 음성과 번개와 지진이 나더라 6일곱 나팔을 가진 일곱 천사가 나팔 불기를 준비하더라 7첫째 천사가 나팔을 부니 피 섞인 우박과 불이 나와서 땅에 쏟아지매 땅의 삼분의 일이 타 버리고 수목의 삼분의 일도 타 버리고 각종 푸른 풀도 타 버렸더라 8둘째 천사가 나팔을 부니 불 붙는 큰 산과 같은 것이 바다에 던져지매 바다의 삼분의 일이 피가 되고 9바다 가운데 생명 가진 피조물들의 삼분의 일이 죽고 배들의 삼분의 일이 깨지더라 9셋째 천사가 나팔을 부니 횃불 같이 타는 큰 별이 하늘에서 떨어져 강들의 삼분의 일과 여러 물샘에 떨어지니 11이 별 이름은 쓴 쑥이라 물의 삼분의 일이 쓴 쑥이 되매 그 물이 쓴 물이 되므로 많은 사람이 죽더라 12넷째 천사가 나팔을 부니 해 삼분의 일과 달 삼분의 일과 별들의 삼분의 일이 타격을 받아 그 삼분의 일이 어두워지니 낮 삼분의 일은 비추임이 없고 밤도 그러하더라 13내가 또 보고 들으니 공중에 날아가는 독수리가 큰 소리로 이르되 땅에 사는 자들에게 화, 화, 화가 있으리니 이는 세 천사들이 불어야 할 나팔 소리가 남아 있음이로다 하더라

1When he opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. 2And I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and to them were given seven trumpets. 3Another angel, who had a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense to offer, with the prayers of all the saints, on the golden altar before the throne. 4The smoke of the incense, together with the prayers of the saints, went up before God from the angel’s hand. 5Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and hurled it on the earth; and there came peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning and an earthquake. 6Then the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared to sound them. 7The first angel sounded his trumpet, and there came hail and fire mixed with blood, and it was hurled down upon the earth. A third of the earth was burned up, a third of the trees were burned up, and all the green grass was burned up. 8The second angel sounded his trumpet, and something like a huge mountain, all ablaze, was thrown into the sea. A third of the sea turned into blood, 9a third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed. 10The third angel sounded his trumpet, and a great star, blazing like a torch, fell from the sky on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water– 11the name of the star is Wormwood. A third of the waters turned bitter, and many people died from the waters that had become bitter. 12The fourth angel sounded his trumpet, and a third of the sun was struck, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of them turned dark. A third of the day was without light, and also a third of the night. 13As I watched, I heard an eagle that was flying in midair call out in a loud voice: “Woe! Woe! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth, because of the trumpet blasts about to be sounded by the other three angels!”

Meditation.
일곱째 인을 떼자 경배하는 자들 위에 큰 침묵이 임합니다(1절). 성경은 이를 ‘고요’라고 표현하는데, 이는 땅에 임할 심판에 대한 긴장을 고조시키는 역할을 합니다. 이후 하나님 앞에 서 있던 일곱 천사가 일곱 나팔을 받았습니다(2절). 또 다른 천사는 제물로 드려진 많은 향과 모든 성도의 기도를 합해 보좌 앞 금 제단에 드렸습니다(3~4절). 천사가 제단의 불을 향로에 담아다가 땅에 쏟자, 우레와 음성과 번개와 지진이 발생했습니다(5절). 이후 일곱 천사가 나팔을 불 때마다 세상에 무서운 재앙이 시작됩니다. 첫째 천사의 나팔로 땅의 삼분의 일이(7절), 둘째 천사의 나팔로 바다의 삼분의 일이(8~9절), 셋째 천사의 나팔로 강의 삼분의 일이(10~11절), 넷째 천사의 나팔로 하늘의 삼분의 일이 재앙을 당합니다(12절). 여기서 나팔은 재앙을 경고하는 도구로 사용됐으며, 결국 땅에 사는 자들은 하나님께서 심판하실 때에 화를 겪게 됨을 보여 줍니다. 구원받은 백성으로서 마지막 때에 있을 일을 기억하며, 향이 하늘로 올라가듯 믿음의 기도를 쉬지 않기를 바랍니다. 종말의 때에 있을 심판을 기억하며 매일매일 믿음과 인내로 기도하며 살아가게 하소서.
