41.Meanwhile, the Philistine, with his shield bearer in front of him, kept coming closer to David. 42.He looked David over and saw that he was only a boy, ruddy and handsome, and he despised him. 43.He said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come at me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. 44.”Come here,” he said, “and I’ll give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field!” 45.David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46.This day the LORD will hand you over to me, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. Today I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. 47.All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the LORD saves; for the battle is the LORD’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.” 48.As the Philistine moved closer to attack him, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him. 49.Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell facedown on the ground. 50.So David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone; without a sword in his hand he struck down the Philistine and killed him. 51.David ran and stood over him. He took hold of the Philistine’s sword and drew it from the scabbard. After he killed him, he cut off his head with the sword. When the Philistines saw that their hero was dead, they turned and ran. 52.Then the men of Israel and Judah surged forward with a shout and pursued the Philistines to the entrance of Gath and to the gates of Ekron. Their dead were strewn along the Shaaraim road to Gath and Ekron. 53.When the Israelites returned from chasing the Philistines, they plundered their camp. 54.David took the Philistine’s head and brought it to Jerusalem, and he put the Philistine’s weapons in his own tent.

Meditation. 전쟁은 여호와께 속한 것인즉
골리앗은 다윗이 어리고 소년티를 벗지 못한 것을 보고 업신여긴다. 무기를 제대로 다룰 줄 모른다고 생각한 것이다. 이를 아는 듯 다윗은 골리앗에게 뜨끔한 선언을 한다. 전쟁의 승패는 칼과 창과 단창이 아니라, 이 전쟁이 오직 여호와께 속한 것임을 아는 것이다(47절). 하나님이 이 사실을 오늘 알게 하실 것이다. 다윗이 이토록 자신감 있게 말할 수 있는 것은 이 전쟁의 본질이 무엇인지를 알고 있었기 때문이다. 그래서 다윗은 칼과 창과 단창에 연연하지 않고, 만군의 여호와의 이름으로 전쟁에 임한다. 이런 믿음을 반영하듯 다윗은 골리앗을 향해 자신감 있게 저돌적으로 빨리 달려 나아가 물매를 던진다. 이 물맷돌은 하나님이 사용하시는 도구가 되어 골리앗의 이마에 박혀 쓰러뜨린다.
지금 내가 치열하게 씨름하는 싸움은 무엇인가? 나는 세상의 비방에 주눅 들지 않고, 이 싸움이 오직 여호와께 속한 싸움임을 인정하며 나아갈 수 있는가? 하나님을 신뢰하라. 예기치 못한 방법으로 놀라운 승리를 가져다주실 것이다.
