10This is the account of Shem’s family line. Two years after the flood, when Shem was 100 years old, he became the father of Arphaxad. 11And after he became the father of Arphaxad, Shem lived 500 years and had other sons and daughters. 12When Arphaxad had lived 35 years, he became the father of Shelah. 13And after he became the father of Shelah, Arphaxad lived 403 years and had other sons and daughters. 14When Shelah had lived 30 years, he became the father of Eber. 15And after he became the father of Eber, Shelah lived 403 years and had other sons and daughters. 16When Eber had lived 34 years, he became the father of Peleg. 17And after he became the father of Peleg, Eber lived 430 years and had other sons and daughters. 18When Peleg had lived 30 years, he became the father of Reu. 19And after he became the father of Reu, Peleg lived 209 years and had other sons and daughters. 20When Reu had lived 32 years, he became the father of Serug. 21And after he became the father of Serug, Reu lived 207 years and had other sons and daughters. 22When Serug had lived 30 years, he became the father of Nahor. 23And after he became the father of Nahor, Serug lived 200 years and had other sons and daughters. 24When Nahor had lived 29 years, he became the father of Terah. 25And after he became the father of Terah, Nahor lived 119 years and had other sons and daughters. 26After Terah had lived 70 years, he became the father of Abram, Nahor and Haran. 27This is the account of Terah’s family line. Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor and Haran. And Haran became the father of Lot. 28While his father Terah was still alive, Haran died in Ur of the Chaldeans, in the land of his birth. 29Abram and Nahor both married. The name of Abram’s wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor’s wife was Milkah; she was the daughter of Haran, the father of both Milkah and Iskah. 30Now Sarai was childless because she was not able to conceive. 31Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, the wife of his son Abram, and together they set out from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to Canaan. But when they came to Harran, they settled there. 32Terah lived 205 years, and he died in Harran.

Meditation
갈대아 우르는 티그리스강과 유브라테스강 사이의 남쪽에 위치한 비옥한 지역으로, 당대 가장 부유한 도시 국가 중 하나로 다양한 종교와 문화가 모이고 혼합되었습니다. 다양한 가치관이 있겠지만 이렇게 풍요로운 곳에서 하나님의 소명을 받고 떠나는 것은 하나님의 계획과 섭리 없이는 도저히 불가능한 선택이었습니다. 본문에서는 데라가 그의 가족을 데리고 갈대아 우르를 떠난 것처럼 언급되지만, 가족의 위치를 살펴보면 하나님의 부름을 받은 아브람이 주도하여 떠난 것으로 보는 것이 바람직합니다(26절). 그러나 데라는 가나안 땅을 향하던 중, 고향 땅인 메소포타미아 북쪽에 있는 하란에 머무릅니다(31절). 당시 안전이 보장되지 않는 상황 속에서, 데라는 하나님을 향한 신뢰보다 하란에 머무는 것을 선택했고, 결국, 하란에 머물다 죽습니다(32절). 혹시 나도 갈대아 우르와 같은 세상에 혹은 믿음의 여정 중에 멈춰 머물고 있지는 않은지 돌아봅시다. 불신앙을 경계하고, 하나님이 부르시는 곳을 향해 담대히 믿음의 여정을 걸어갑시다. 의심과 불안이라는 불신앙을 극복하고 믿음으로 나아가, 하나님의 부르심에 응답하게 하소서.
