1그때에 시날 왕 아므라벨과 엘라살 왕 아리옥과 엘람 왕 그돌라오멜과 고임 왕 디달이 2소돔 왕 베라와 고모라 왕 비르사와 아드마 왕 시납과 스보임 왕 세메벨과 벨라 곧 소알 왕과 싸우니라 3이들이 다 시딤 골짜기 곧 지금의 염해에 모였더라 4이들이 십이 년 동안 그돌라오멜을 섬기다가 제십삼년에 배반한지라 5제십사년에 그돌라오멜과 그와 함께한 왕들이 와서 아스드롯 가르나임에서 르바 족속을, 함에서 수스 족속을, 사웨 기랴다임에서 엠 족속을 치고 6호리 족속을 그 산 세일에서 쳐서 광야 근방 엘바란까지 이르렀으며 7그들이 돌이켜 엔미스밧 곧 가데스에 이르러 아말렉 족속의 온 땅과 하사손다말에 사는 아모리 족속을 친지라 8소돔 왕과 고모라 왕과 아드마 왕과 스보임 왕과 벨라 곧 소알 왕이 나와 시딤 골짜기에서 그들과 전쟁을 하였으니 9곧 엘람 왕 그돌라오멜과 고임 왕 디달과 시날 왕 아므라벨과 엘라살 왕 아리옥 네 왕이 그 다섯 왕과 맞서니라 10시딤 골짜기에는 역청 구덩이가 많은지라 소돔 왕과 고모라 왕이 도망할 때에 빠지고 그 남은 자는 산으로 도망하매 11네 왕이 소돔과 고모라의 모든 재물과 양식을 빼앗아 가고 12소돔에 거주하는 아브람의 조카 롯도 사로잡고 그의 재물까지 빼앗아 갔더라 13한 사람이 도망하여 히브리 사람 아브람에게 알리니 그때에 아브람이 아모리 사람 마므레의 상수리 수풀 근처에 거주하였더라 마므레는 에스골의 형제요 또 아넬의 형제라 이들은 아브람과 동맹한 자들이더라 14아브람이 그의 조카가 사로잡혔음을 듣고 집에서 길리고 훈련된 자 삼백십팔 명을 거느리고 단까지 쫓아가서 15그와 그의 가신들이 나뉘어 밤에 그들을 쳐부수고 다메섹 왼편 호바까지 쫓아가 16모든 재물과 자기 조카 롯과 그의 재물과 또 부녀와 친척을 다 찾아왔더라

1At the time when Amraphel was king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Kedorlaomer king of Elam and Tidal king of Goyim, 2these kings went to war against Bera king of Sodom, Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, Shemeber king of Zeboyim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar). 3All these latter kings joined forces in the Valley of Siddim (that is, the Dead Sea Valley). 4For twelve years they had been subject to Kedorlaomer, but in the thirteenth year they rebelled. 5In the fourteenth year, Kedorlaomer and the kings allied with him went out and defeated the Rephaites in Ashteroth Karnaim, the Zuzites in Ham, the Emites in Shaveh Kiriathaim 6and the Horites in the hill country of Seir, as far as El Paran near the desert. 7Then they turned back and went to En Mishpat (that is, Kadesh), and they conquered the whole territory of the Amalekites, as well as the Amorites who were living in Hazezon Tamar. 8Then the king of Sodom, the king of Gomorrah, the king of Admah, the king of Zeboyim and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar) marched out and drew up their battle lines in the Valley of Siddim 9against Kedorlaomer king of Elam, Tidal king of Goyim, Amraphel king of Shinar and Arioch king of Ellasar—four kings against five. 10Now the Valley of Siddim was full of tar pits, and when the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, some of the men fell into them and the rest fled to the hills. 11The four kings seized all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah and all their food; then they went away. 12They also carried off Abram’s nephew Lot and his possessions, since he was living in Sodom. 13A man who had escaped came and reported this to Abram the Hebrew. Now Abram was living near the great trees of Mamre the Amorite, a brother of Eshkol and Aner, all of whom were allied with Abram. 14When Abram heard that his relative had been taken captive, he called out the 318 trained men born in his household and went in pursuit as far as Dan. 15During the night Abram divided his men to attack them and he routed them, pursuing them as far as Hobah, north of Damascus. 16He recovered all the goods and brought back his relative Lot and his possessions, together with the women and the other people.

Meditation
엘람 왕 그돌라오멜과 그의 동맹 왕들은 12년 동안 가나안 지역의 다섯 왕을 지배했습니다(1~4절). 그러나 가나안 왕들이 반란을 일으키자, 그돌라오멜은 군대를 이끌고 진압에 나섭니다. 그는 소돔과 고모라를 포함한 여러 도시를 정복했고, 이 과정에서 소돔 왕과 함께 롯도 포로로 잡혀갑니다(5~11절). 소돔에서 도망쳐 나온 사람이 이 소식을 전하자, 아브람은 즉시 훈련된 가신 318명을 이끌고 롯을 구출하기 위해 추격에 나섭니다. 사실, 전쟁 경험이 없는 소수의 가신으로 도시 국가 연합군을 공격하는 것은 무모한 일이었습니다. 하지만 아브람은 하나님께서 주신 언약을 신뢰하며 가족을 구하기 위해 믿음의 결단을 내립니다. 마침내 그는 적들을 물리치고 롯과 그의 재산, 그리고 다른 포로들을 모두 구출하는 데 성공합니다(12~16절). 아브람의 모습을 본받아 하나님께서 주신 언약을 믿고 믿음의 행보를 선택할 때, 하나님이 베푸시는 기적을 체험할 것입니다. 눈앞의 상황이 어려울지라도, 오늘 내 삶 가운데 일하실 하나님을 의지하며 그리스도인으로서 적극적으로 선택하기를 바랍니다. 오늘도 나와 함께하시며 일하시는 하나님을 의지하며, 믿음의 길을 담대하게 걷게 하소서.
