20모르드개가 이 일을 기록하고 아하수에로 왕의 각 지방에 있는 모든 유다인에게 원근을 막론하고 글을 보내어 이르기를 21한 규례를 세워 해마다 아달월 십사일과 십오일을 지키라 22이 달 이 날에 유다인들이 대적에게서 벗어나서 평안함을 얻어 슬픔이 변하여 기쁨이 되고 애통이 변하여 길한 날이 되었으니 이 두 날을 지켜 잔치를 베풀고 즐기며 서로 예물을 주며 가난한 자를 구제하라 하매 23유다인이 자기들이 이미 시작한 대로 또한 모르드개가 보낸 글대로 계속하여 행하였으니 24곧 아각 사람 함므다다의 아들 모든 유다인의 대적 하만이 유다인을 진멸하기를 꾀하고 부르 곧 제비를 뽑아 그들을 죽이고 멸하려 하였으나 25에스더가 왕 앞에 나아감으로 말미암아 왕이 조서를 내려 하만이 유다인을 해하려던 악한 꾀를 그의 머리에 돌려보내어 하만과 그의 여러 아들을 나무에 달게 하였으므로 26무리가 부르의 이름을 따라 이 두 날을 부림이라 하고 유다인이 이 글의 모든 말과 이 일에 보고 당한 것으로 말미암아 27뜻을 정하고 자기들과 자손과 자기들과 화합한 자들이 해마다 그 기록하고 정해 놓은 때 이 두 날을 이어서 지켜 폐하지 아니하기로 작정하고 28각 지방, 각 읍, 각 집에서 대대로 이 두 날을 기념하여 지키되 이 부림일을 유다인 중에서 폐하지 않게 하고 그들의 후손들이 계속해서 기념하게 하였더라 29아비하일의 딸 왕후 에스더와 유다인 모르드개가 전권으로 글을 쓰고 부림에 대한 이 둘째 편지를 굳게 지키게 하되 30화평하고 진실한 말로 편지를 써서 아하수에로의 나라 백이십칠 지방에 있는 유다 모든 사람에게 보내어 31정한 기간에 이 부림일을 지키게 하였으니 이는 유다인 모르드개와 왕후 에스더가 명령한 바와 유다인이 금식하며 부르짖은 것으로 말미암아 자기와 자기 자손을 위하여 정한 바가 있음이더라 32에스더의 명령이 이 부림에 대한 일을 견고하게 하였고 그 일이 책에 기록되었더라

20Mordecai recorded these events, and he sent letters to all the Jews throughout the provinces of King Xerxes, near and far, 21to have them celebrate annually the fourteenth and fifteenth days of the month of Adar 22as the time when the Jews got relief from their enemies, and as the month when their sorrow was turned into joy and their mourning into a day of celebration. He wrote them to observe the days as days of feasting and joy and giving presents of food to one another and gifts to the poor. 23So the Jews agreed to continue the celebration they had begun, doing what Mordecai had written to them. 24For Haman son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the enemy of all the Jews, had plotted against the Jews to destroy them and had cast the pur (that is, the lot) for their ruin and destruction. 25But when the plot came to the king’s attention, he issued written orders that the evil scheme Haman had devised against the Jews should come back onto his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows. 26(Therefore these days were called Purim, from the word pur.) Because of everything written in this letter and because of what they had seen and what had happened to them, 27the Jews took it upon themselves to establish the custom that they and their descendants and all who join them should without fail observe these two days every year, in the way prescribed and at the time appointed. 28These days should be remembered and observed in every generation by every family, and in every province and in every city. And these days of Purim should never cease to be celebrated by the Jews, nor should the memory of them die out among their descendants. 29So Queen Esther, daughter of Abihail, along with Mordecai the Jew, wrote with full authority to confirm this second letter concerning Purim. 30And Mordecai sent letters to all the Jews in the 127 provinces of the kingdom of Xerxes-words of goodwill and assurance- 31to establish these days of Purim at their designated times, as Mordecai the Jew and Queen Esther had decreed for them, and as they had established for themselves and their descendants in regard to their times of fasting and lamentation. 32Esther’s decree confirmed these regulations about Purim, and it was written down in the records.

Meditation
성경의 절기들은 하나님께서 율법을 통해 명령하셨지만, 부림절은 유다인이 겪은 역사적 사건에서 시작됩니다. 부림은 제비를 뜻하는 ‘부르’라는 단어의 복수형으로, 하만이 유다인을 모두 죽일 날을 정하기 위해 제비를 뽑은 데서 유래됐습니다(24~26절). 이에 모르드개는 죽음의 위기에서 벗어나 대적들에게 보복한 그날의 구원과 승리를 기념하기 위해 부림절을 제정합니다(28절). 부림절은 죽음이 예정된 날을 하나님께서 생명의 날로 바꿔 주셨음을 뜻합니다. 이는 죽을 수밖에 없는 죄인이었던 성도가 예수님의 십자가로 인해 구원을 받고 새로운 생명을 얻게 된 것과 동일합니다. 이처럼 구원받은 성도는 매일의 삶을 부림절과 같이 지켜야 합니다. 특히 모르드개는 이날에 서로 예물을 나누며 가난한 자들을 구제하라고 명합니다(22절). 가난한 자들을 구제하는 것은 구원받은 성도가 마땅히 해야 할 감사의 표현으로, 하나님의 은혜를 아는 자라면 마땅히 감당해야 할 사명입니다(참조 신 15:11). 그러므로 구원의 기쁨은 반드시 섬김으로 연결돼야 한다는 것을 기억합시다. 날마다 부림절과 같은 구원의 은혜에 감사하며, 하나님의 사랑을 이웃과 나누며 살게 하소서.
